If you have the serpentine belt, smog pump can be by-passed easily by getting the shorter belt, and routing it as shown on this diagram shown on the firewall! Some vans, in some areas didn't get the smog pump, which is a constant source of noise, and adds back pressure to the exhaust system (and makes it get hotter!)
